History
KiHS was created in 2000 at the request of the Chiefs of Keewaytinook Okimakanak who found that students who left their communities to attend school down south were facing many challenges and barriers to success. KiHS was among the first schools to make use of new internet technology to deliver program m ing. KiHS began as a grade 9 program and grew into a full high school with a wide range of courses and services.
KiHS offers over 85 different courses. all developed specifically for our students. Other schools may offer programs in the north. but not all their courses are written with our northern First Nations students in mind. KiHS also offers all three streams of courses: Academic, Applied, and Locally Developed.
Support
What makes KiHS successful is our team of OCT certified teachers who create our excellent courses. These teachers live and work in our partner communities. They are there to support you. the student. and to meet face to face with parents and the comm unity. If you ever have questions. please visit the local classroom. This connection with the First Nation helps our teachers be better able to make courses that ourstudents can relate to and be successful in. making KiHS unlike any other high school.
Skills
At KiHS. students learn a wide range of technology skills. Our graduates routinely report being better prepared for the technology demands of post secondary education and the workplace than their peers who did not attend KiHS. In a changing world. being comfortable with dozens of apps and software programs will seNe our students well.
